Do you often dream of traveling around the world but can’t because of lack of time and budget? What if I tell you that you can visit some popular tourist spots without spending a dime nor leaving your seat?
Just today, I’ve been to the Times Square in New York, the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, the Disneyland in California and even the Niagara Falls. That’s after I went to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, visited Barcelona in Spain and yes, London too (where I had learned that have left-hand driving there).
How did I do it? Simple, Google Maps. If your laptop or computer is faster, you can even try Google Earth. The experience feels like you’re walking or driving around different places – virtually of course. But hey! It’s a better alternative than being absolutely clueless of how another place looks like.
Take for example our house in another state that were renting out. I’ve not been there lately and we just have a property manager for the place but I walked around the block just now and took a picture of it from across the street. I actually passed by a sexy lady riding a bicycle along the way but I was not able to get a screen shot. Wink! You could also visit your friends’ houses and if you’re lucky, you could catch a glimpse of them standing outside their houses or about to ride their cars that are parked by the roadside.
In some places, the details are not as clear to allow zooming in but Google Earth can still give you a picture of how a place looks like from above like in this screen shot of my parents’ house in the Philippines. The other houses in the picture are those of my grandmother and my aunts.
So, have you tried traveling via Google Maps and Google Earth too? Can you see your house there? Why not try it now? ‘Would love to hear you share your experience.

This year we’ve been fortunate enough to see Times Square, since we stayed for 6 months in NYC. Still, this much time away from home did make me a bit sad. So, I used Google maps to see my home in Romania and I felt better.
We can see places we cannot yet reach or, when we are that lucky, we can just get a virtual tour back home 🙂

i second the motion, thanks to Google earth. it’s also great in checking out properties that are for sale because you can “take a look” at the place without traveling.
