My topic for this post has nothing to do with Georyl’s escapades but I thought that it’s worth sharing because it’s for a good cause. I’m referring to the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship.
What is Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship
Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship is a program that aims to fill the need for effective teachers in our education system (especially in the high-need areas which are the high-poverty urban or rural schools) by recruiting, preparing and retaining these teachers.
Individuals, specifically college seniors and career changers, from across the country are trained and prepare for successful careers as math, science and technology (STEM) teachers. Fellows attend teacher education programs complemented by intensive mentoring during the first three years of teaching at high-need urban and rural schools.
Fellows will have to undergo a full-time academic, pre-service year of Master’s coursework spent in a high need classroom alongside experienced teacher leaders. To offset the cost of the full-time pre-service Master’s year, fellows receive a $30,000 stipend. Aside from that, many university partners offer additional financial aid incentives, tuition reductions, and scholarships to Fellows.
Application Process
Online applications are now available for the 2012 Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowships in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Candidates for science, technology or math teacher fellowships have to complete one application that allows them to apply to the Fellowship program at a variety of universities across Indiana, Ohio, or Michigan.
