A lot of people dread the bleak winter months: the days are shorter, the weather’s colder and the world seems a little bit darker. You don’t have to worry about the impending doom of late November, though – instead, follow these tricks for making the most of the coldest time of the year.
1. Don’t wall yourself in. If all that’s standing between you and a night out with friends is an icy driveway and a snow-covered car, arm yourself with the necessary equipment. Keep a bag of sand handy to melt dangerous ice patches, buy a sturdy shovel, invest in a large snow brush brush to clean off your windshield, replace snow thrower parts – whatever you need to do to not be trapped in your house after a storm.
2. It’s easy to skip the gym when you don’t want to head out to your car, but exercise is one of the best ways to beat the winter blues. Exercise right after work so that you’re limiting how many times you have to walk from the comfort of your warm living room to the chilly car outside.
3. It’s common to feel like a failure if the end of January is fast approaching and you still haven’t tackled your New Year’s Resolution. Make any day – or even every day – your personal New Year’s Day. There’s no rule saying that if you don’t get on the ball on January 1st, you need to wait an entire year to get started improving your life.
