When I won in Lainy’s contest, among the prizes that I received were two domain names courtesy of Ma Belle. I already registered the first one for a WP blog which I’ll be sharing with my mother until the time she gets used to WordPress and blogging (and if you’re wondering, it’s densonline.com) but I can’t decide a domain for the other one.
I’d like to go into niche blogging but the more I think about it, the more I can’t decide on what particular topic to focus on.
Criteria for Searching a Niche in Blogging
According to blogging authorities, you should choose a niche which you are passionate about. It has to be something that you won’t be tired of discussing and you really enjoy doing.
I have a problem in staying focused but, yes, I do have a lot of things that I like (that’s why I can’t stay focused on something, wink!). That will not be much of a trouble.
The second criteria in finding a niche in blogging is where the problem comes in because they said that you should blog about a topic wherein you have the knowledge or mastery of the subject. I like doing a lot of things but I feel like a jack of all trades, master of none. That’s a hard part!
Another factor to be considered in looking for a blogging niche is your purpose or reason for blogging. If you just want to express yourself or socialize with other bloggers, it would be easy to just set up a personal (mixed bag) blog. Since I’m already doing that here at Georyl.com, I’m aiming to set-up a new site that will be more commercialized (translation: should make more money online). What niche will bring in more online income opportunities?
My blogging friends, when you chose your domain names, did you already have a blog niche in mind? Were you compelled to include your keyword in your domain names?
Your inputs and suggestions are highly appreciated.

when i choose a domain name, i do have a certain niche in mind already. why not make a “learning” blog. choose from your interests, while you’re learning more about it, you also get to share it with your readers.
goodluck 🙂

The problem with niche blog is that you must have a lot of resources, knowledge and information about that niche before you can make a blog about it. Before I started blogging, I was trying to go into beauty blog. I love make-up and skincare products but I don’t have a lot of resources about it and given with my limited budget, I just can’t buy stuff to try out and review it for my readers. Then I wanted to go to fashion, but for the same reasons, with lack of resources, and knowledge about it…..and of course, I don’t have lots of clothes to showcase, I forgot about being a fashion blogger. So I chose personal blogging.
If you feel you’re knowledgeable about a certain subject, go ahead…but if your knowledge and resources are limited, I think the blog authorities are right, coz you might run out of topics to write about and most of all, you can’t just write something with only an opinion about it. You must have solid knowledge about the subject and not mere personal views about it.

Niche Blogging is really very a big problem especially when you have a limited knowhow of the niche. Unlike when you talk about anything under the sun your resources is somewhat overflowing.
But if you can focus on a given niche your chance to gain solid viewers is very high. And you can always convert your friends on the list as your potent buyers when you have your own product or as an affiliate.
Well goodluck Sheryl… have a nice weekend!:=)

Hi Georyl.
I agree, choosing a niche is a problem. Now, I am up to four blogs: earning online blog, personal blog, doggy blog and writing/books blog. I am really excited in maintaining all of them. It’s my online experiment. Hope you can find your next niche! 🙂
