I am a Filipino so you might think that I am biased – please don’t. I am not a boxing fan nor a fan of Manny Pacquiao but I admit that watching him fight with Antonio Margarito recently won my vote for him as the greatest boxer of all time.
I won’t talk about the numerous boxing belts from different weight classes that Pacman holds, those are not the things that had won me over. What made me think that he’s the greatest boxer was the fact that he boxes with his heart.
A boxer showing compassion for his opponent inside the ring is unheard of, even frowned upon by boxing aficionados who wanted to see blood and enjoy watching TKO endings to boxing matches.
Boxing With His Heart
Despite Margarito’s reputation as a hard puncher, it’s obvious that Manny can take his punches and can do a lot of damage to the former if he wanted to0. But true to his heart, Pacman had shown that he really means it when he makes the sign of the cross before and after his fights. Towards the end of the fight, Pacman can be seen signaling to the referee his opponent’s condition and even if continued to fight, his punches were controlled and not really hard anymore to prevent further damage.
Pacman and Margarito may be professional boxers but they are persons after all. Outside the boxing ring, they have families and loved ones who love and care for them just like you do. I can’t imagine the damage Pacquiao could have caused Margarito if he punched at his full power. If I was Margarito’s child, wife or mother, I will be grateful for the compassion shown by Manny.
Thank you Manny for making us proud Filipinos and Christians.

i agree with you, i watched the fight and i saw the compassion. he was looking at the referee at the start of round 11, and waiting for him to end the fight because of margarito’s situation.
all in all pacman is the greatest boxer! 😉

Hello Gee, thanks for the credits. I got it!
Anyways, I am not really a fond of Manny as well but when he is in the ring he has the charisma that all Filipinos will be one. A very kind and generous person too that is why he won as Congressman. Viva Manny P.

Pacquiao is not even mentioned on some of the list of greatest boxers. I don’t know about their criteria and how they measure greatness. But I want to ask one question, can anybody tell me who is the boxer in any time of history who can demolish champions after champions in a devastating way in 8 different weight divisions, or even 7, or 6 or 5 weight divisions?

I think you missed something because Manny already received I think more than 3 boxer of the year awards by the Ring which is the most prestigious or the boxing guru. In fact, the greats like Ali, Sugar Ray, Hagler, etc, cannot be compared to him as many experts and analyst have said because they are able to do what Manny have done.

oopppsss, the last part should be read like this “they are NOT able to do”..

I was afraid seeing how big Margarito was for Manny, but in the long run, his dedication to his craft triumphed. I hope he retired while on his peak.

That’s what captures my attention also, even my eyes are already glued on the tv screen, it is still remarkable seeing a fighter do that while inside the ring exchanging punches. Seeing a gesture like that, that he is concern of the safety of his opponent is just amazing.

for me he is a greatest boxer at all time you can see in all his fight .. anyway congrats!

I hope that even if he achieved numbers of victory in his fight that he would still keep his feet on the ground.

same here, im not a fan of manny pacquiao but after watching his fight versus margarito it made me realized that he’s really a great boxer. He was able to beat Margarito even though he’s just small compared to Margarito. Ika nga, small but terrible. 🙂 but then I salute Manny for being religious from the beginning till the end of the fight. 🙂

Well, I love watching Pacquiao’s fights and I’m gonna be as biased as possible! Kidding aside, I think what makes him awesome really is that he never claims to be the world’s greatest, he lets his record speak for itself and no one can argue with that.;) He’s definitely confident but never puffed-up which is something I can’t say about the other boxers out there.
David Funk says
At very the worst, he’s most definitely put himself into the discussion as being the best boxer of all-time. I think Shydub hit the nail on the head: He’s the best NOW. If this were a vote on pure class, he wins the debate HANDS DOWN without question.
Boxing maybe the toughest sport to analyze in terms of who is the best of all-time because of eras and weight classes. But winning in that many weight classes like he’s done has to count for something regardless of who the opponents are or the competition.

Go go Manny! 🙂

I guess we can now call him- Manny the Great! Love him because he’s down to earth.
