Before the kids’ summer vacation ended in August, our family and my sister in law’s family decided to spend five days in California. We spent most of the short vacation visiting places in the southern part of the state, particularly in the San Diego area.
One of the places that we visited was the Legoland California. It is actually located in Carlsbad, California which was about forty minute-drive away from the hotel in San Diego where we stayed.
The Three Parks in Legoland California
They have three attractions or parks in Legoland California: Legoland, Water Park and Sea Life Aquarium. The price of tickets vary depending on where you want to be admitted. There’s the Resort Hopper ticket for the three parks, Water Park Hopper (for Legoland and Water Park) and Sea Life Hopper (Legoland and Sea Life). You can also opt to just go to Legoland or the Sea Life Aquarium only.
Our party of six decided to simply purchase the Legoland park option (because it’s cheaper, wink!). Baby Georyl went in for free because she was less than 3 years old but for all of us who were 13 years old and above, a 1-day park ticket cost $69 each.
A Good Samaritan
While we were queuing at the ticket booth, a man who’s probably in his 60’s approached us and asked how many we were in our group. After we replied, he gave us a Legoland discount coupon from McDonald’s that automatically gave us a discount of $20 each. Wow, that’s a savings of $100! We forgot to ask his name but we’re glad that we’re still able to thank him before he hurriedly left to join his group at the entrance of the park.
The Rides and Attractions
Among the attractions that I enjoyed in Legoland are the Fairy Tale Brook, Coast Cruise, Miniland and the various lego displays. We also watched two shows: “The Journey to the Lost Temple” and “The Big Test”.
We didn’t have time to explore more and enjoy the rides because after playing at the Duplo Town and being full at lunch, Baby Georyl became fussy and grumpy because she’s sleepy and tired. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time sitting on benches under the tree near the Sky Patrol Ride attraction – just watching young and old pass by.
I’ll share some pics with you (and probably a video or two) soon about our escapades. I took a lot of photos in the Miniland because I’m so amazed at how they used lego pieces to create mini villages and cities.
Before I end this post, here’s a picture of a blue SUV parked near Volvo Driving School. From afar you might think that it’s an ordinary car.
Look closer, it’s a lego car!

The original Legoland (which opened in 1968) is located on the western half of Denmark, called Jutland. It´s 110 km from my place. And lego originally came from Denmark and it is actually a simple line of construction toys or bricks you might say.
