We Did It! Installing Our Kitchen’s Drywall

One of the projects that we did with our newly bought property is renovating the kitchen. We removed the cabinets and will be replacing them soon. The kitchen wall was covered with dark green tiles so we removed them as well (I don’t like its color and it looked so outdated). Problem is, the tiles stuck to the dry wall so we need to replace the dry wall too.

Now, here’s the interesting part: quotes we received just to have the dry wall replaced were between $800 to $1200. See how big the area is:

Hubby and I decided to do it ourselves. We watched tutorials on how to install a drywall on the internet. The drywall and other materials such as joint compound, screws (not lag screw but those needed in the screw gun), orange peel texture and paint cost us less than $100.

Hubby had finished applying the orange peel texture earlier today but I wasn’t able to take pictures because I can’t stand the strong smell of that chemical.

Installing this dry wall has been quite a learning experience for us. I’m not saying it was easy but what we learned about the task and about our capabilities were worth it.
