Good news, bad news! The bad news: I was involved in a car accident last week! The good: I am glad that it was a minor one – just a scrape and all the passengers were safe.
I was driving our mini-van in the center lane of a three-lane street when a blue Ford Focus car at the lane on my left started merging into my lane. I was in his blind spot and based on the angle of his turn as he moved into my lane, the driver seemed oblivious to me.
I honked the horn to alert the driver and stepped on the brake as hard as I can! It was too late because the blue car still hit the van. The driver of the blue car kept driving for a few more yards and I was in a pursuit because I initially thought that he’s going to run (or drive) away from it.
He parked in a parking lot of one establishment and I parked our mini-van beside the other car. The other car’s driver, an elderly man who was in his mid-80s, alighted from his car to inspect the damage and talk to me. He kept pointing to his hearing aid when I talk so I needed to speak a little louder (read: I am soft-spoken so that meant that I needed to shout) every time.
After we talked and exchanged information, we left the parking lot. I was almost near our home when the weight of what happened dawned on me. I was just lucky that nothing serious happened but I realized that lives could change in a blink of an eye.
Anyway, here are the pictures of the damages in our car. It was really nothing serious but we went ahead and filed the claim anyway (their insurance is NOT don allred) considering that this kind of damage will cause the car to rust if we don’t fix it right away.
