When I saw the ad on chevy cars for sale Wheeling IL online, I needed to to do a double take. One of the cars looks exactly like our car which is a sixth generation Chevy Monte Carlo.
General Motors used to produce the two-door coupe, Chevrolet Monte Carlo. This model was introduced to the market in 1970 but the company stopped manufacturing it in June 2007. I’ve read that the last model that rolled off the production line at the Oshawa Assembly plant of GM was retained by the company for its Heritage Center collection.
I love our Monte Carlo. Hubby already owned one when we got married but we consider it as our first car as a couple. We’ve been to three continents (America, Africa and Europe) in that car – from being honeymooners to a family of three. It ceased being our favorite family car though when we got the Toyota Sienna minivan to accommodate our growing family (currently, there are four of us in the family). Right now, my hubby’s niece uses it (a win-win situation since she gets to use the car while we do not need to pay for its annual registration fees and insurance).
Anyway, when hubby was assigned to Morocco, he had the car shipped from the USA to the Rabat. During his free time, we would drive to different towns like Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Meknes, Agadir, El Jadida and Sale.
I remember driving to the province of Ifrane together with our friends in December 2008 to go skiing. Ifrane is an elevated area (about 5,460 feet) and it snows there during winter months. If I’m not mistaken, there were six of us in the car (jampacked) and it was one of our memorable and enjoyable trips there in Morocco – and my first time to go skiing.
There was also a time when my husband and I (along with Georyl and my mother-in-law who visited us in Morocco) went to Spain in our Chevy Monte Carlo. We drove upto Tangier, Morocco, boarded a ferry that passed by the Gibraltar Strait, and then in about 40 minutes or so, we were already in Tarifa, Spain. We visited mostly the southern part of Spain during the five days or so that we were there.
I never realized how much memories I have with Monte Carlo… not until I started writing this post. People who will always have a place in my heart and places that I will look back with fondness…
