Were there times when you feel sorry for being rude but you know you need to?
Lately we’ve been hounded by a call center agent from my native land who’s offering us some phone plans similar to the vonage business phone service. At first, my husband and I politely turned down the offer but he kept on calling even though we said that we’re not interested in their product. What also irritates me is the fact that the moment I say “hello,” this agent will start with a never-ending rhetoric about their products that I can barely butt in to say that I’m too busy to take the call. He’s so persistent, insistent and seems to have a reply to every reason I give for not buying the product.
I have friends and relatives who are call center agents so I try to be as patient as I can be when dealing with these callers (and just think about how my friends and relatives will feel if they get rude responses from the people they call) but when it comes to the point when I feel that I’m already being harassed and the other party becomes inconsiderate, I can be bitchy too. Needless to say, that call center agent stopped bugging us after hearing my piece.
There are times that persistence is a part of our job but I hope some people will realize when what they do borders on harassment and disrespect, and learn when to quit and accept a rejection. Do you agree?
