I am petite. To find an evening dress that will suit me in a fashion world dominated by tall fashion models is a challenge.
Since there is nothing I can do with my height, I just learned how to find clothes that will work for me.
If we’re on the same boat, then let me share with you some tips in choosing clothes, including evening clothes, for petite women with slender body (as compared to other body types like top-heavy, pear-shaped, curvaceous and apple-shaped).
Unflattering necklines
Avoid plunge neckline, bardot style neckline and large-polo neck.
Recommended Necklines
You can try ballerina neck, square neck, crew neck, scoop neck, sweetheart neck, mandarin neck, slash neck, polo neck, pierre cardin style collar, collar, shirt collar, teardrop neckline and cowl neckline. You can also wear asymmetric shoulder, wide strap vest top, high neck vest, halter neck, spaghetti straps, wide scoop, off the shoulder, waterfall collar, gypsy and sleeveless round neck.
Strapless Styles
Not all strapless gowns are created equal. Avoid period style strapless gowns; instead, go for curved strapless, standard strapless and extra band around the bust.
Flattering Dress Styles
Empire line, shirt dress and shift dress are good choices for petite women. You can also use tunic dress, waisted dress, smock dress and blouson style dress.
Unflattering Dress Styles
If you are petite with a slender body type, avoid wearing dropped waist dress, bias cut dress.
Skirts
Fashion expert Caryn Franklin says flared, tiered, vertical ruffled, wrap front, pencil and handkerchief hemline skirts are good for slender petite women. Above the knee, on the knee, below the knee and mid-calf are also great.
Whether you are looking for a wedding party dress, a cocktail dress or any dress for special occasions, you should consider the above tips in choosing the perfect dress.
