While the plight of the underprivileged in America is receiving a hitherto unheard of amount of positive attention in the media, the fact remains that there is much to be done in order to alleviate the stress and shame of poverty in our various rural and urban communities. Some may view the various national media stories highlighting poverty in our nation as unpatriotic, but the fact remains that it does exist, and does stand in crying need of addressing and repairing.
Private Enterprise Is Moving To Take Control Of The Situation
It is no longer enough to simply take due notice of the various conditions around us that stand in dire need of improvement. It’s high time that the people who are “movers and shakers” in the community take their due portion of responsibility to enact positive changes that will brighten the lives of our millions of citizens who are currently living at, or well below, the national “poverty line”.
Recently, many corporate leaders and chief executive officers from all manner of American companies have stood up to be counted when it comes to continuing the age old tradition of private enterprise giving back to the community. After all, the age of the great philanthropists, such as Carnegie, Mellon, Rockefeller, and Getty, is hardly to be considered a mere relic of the far off past. In truth, the present age of corporate philanthropy far outshines its illustrious predecessor in both magnitude and scope.
Great Corporate Philanthropists Are Answering The Call
A recent John Hailer article in Boston Common magazine clearly proves that he is among the growing number of corporate “big wigs” who are not afraid to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to aiding charitable causes in their communities. Hailer has won a great deal of well deserved praise from the community of Boston for his excellent and highly commendable charitable work.
Hailer, in particular, has been instrumental in providing charitable aid and funding to many critically important organizations in the Boston metro area. These organizations include such stalwart operations in the community as The Home For Little Wanderers (formerly known as Boston Children’s Services). This represents only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the sheer amount of time, energy, and money that Hailer has poured into various charities.
Organizing And Revitalizing Our Needy Communities
Of course, even heroic individuals such as Hailer, armed with the full might of the American free enterprise system, can’t do it all by themselves. But they can stand as leaders and organizers in the great mission to ensure that no one in America will ever go hungry or needy again.
