When I started At Home With Georyl last month, I envisioned a blog mainly with magazine-styled articles related to home, parenting and family – informative but less personal.
As my blogging progressed, I realized the mistake that I made. That style just defeated my purpose for blogging.
First, I consider blogging as a way of reaching out to everyone across the globe. Being a stay at home wife and mother in a foreign country with a language that I still have to learn (French and Arabic) would have taken its toll on me years ago had I not been keeping in touch with the world through blogging.
Second, blogging has been a means for me to share my thoughts, experiences and knowledge. The formal style of writing does not suit me because I’d like to interact with people in a more personal way. Just like talking to a friend, not a stranger who happen to drop by my site.
Third, I’ve met a lot of people and made friends with my fellow bloggers using the “personal style” of writing. I want people to know that there’s a real person behind this blog – a wife, a mother, a friend.
And so, I decided to make this blog more personal. It will be still related to family, homekeeping, family/personal finances and other concerns of a stay at home wife and mother but this time, the writing style will become less formal.

I personally prefer a personal style blogs. They have their own points of view and they can talk about anything and everything that had happen surrounded them. Nevertheless, niche sites have their own purposes too.

You can have an informative post with a personal touch on it. Like I do, when I make an informative post, I make it sound I am telling the information to some friend or some one I know. You can put your “voice” in any informative post you want to relay.
