Life has been hectic these past few days and for some health reasons, I had to avoid prolonged exposure to the computer for a while. With eight blogs to manage (all with page ranks), this is a no-no or else, I’ll be in the danger of losing all those PRs.
And so off I went to scour the internet for a virtual assistant. An online job posting generated a few replies but until now, I still wasn’t able to pick a virtual assistant. It didn’t even reached the interview phase.
Why?
Well, none seems to pass my “standards” so far. I meant, it’s not that I set such high standards. I was clear on my job requirements and expectations. It’s just that, so far, I just don’t get impressed by the resumes that I received.
All job applicants (whether for a virtual job or a real-world office setting) should understand that a resume speaks a lot. It’s the one that creates the “first impression” and you wouldn’t make one if your resume is laden with grammatical and typo errors (especially if you’re applying for a writing job). It would help if you ask other people to double check your work or maybe check out some free resume builder online.
In addition to reviewing their resumes for errors, applicants should make sure that they understand the job requirements and tailor their resume to highlight their qualifications that will make them fit for the job. You can write all about your achievements in managing people and stuff but if the task requires just writing, you should highlight your competencies in writing.
Also, it is important to be realistic in setting your expected salary. I had someone applicants who charged me $50 per hour. If you’re working for a big-time company, that amount might just be peanuts but it’s way out of my budget.

I agree in most part since I can relate with it during my latest job interview with my present job. My resume speaks it all according to them. hehehe Just being simple and straight to the point and most of all realistic with your achievements.
