While waiting at the pharmacy in the Mike Callaghan Federal Hospital here in Las Vegas, my husband and I had a chance to chat with a couple who currently live in a senior living Henderson Nevada facility. They were surprised at how adept Georyl was while playing with the iPad. They cannot believe that a three-year old toddler could easily beat them in navigating such a techie gadget.
Anyway, since both Bob and Teresa are very friendly (and it took us a while before we got our medicine from the pharmacy), we chatted with them for a considerably long time. We learned that both husband and wife are retired military. They also love to travel like us but their marriage was not blessed with children. After they retired from the service, they sold their house and traveled all over the world for almost a decade and just enjoyed each others company.
After years of visiting various places, they finally decided to settle down in a senior living facility in Henderson. They said that they opted for the independent living although the facility also offers assisted living, memory care and Alzheimer’s care.
I have not heard of Sienna Hills since I came from the northwest part of Las Vegas and that facility is in Henderson however, I was curious by how both Bob and Teresa described the place so I searched for it online.
According to their website, Sienna Hills provide health care services 24 hours a day. I think that it is great that they offer individualized care program while maintaining each resident’s privacy and dignity. They offer many daily activities, fitness programs and walking club, beauty salon, spa, barbershop, scheduled transportation and day trips, pet services and dog park. I also saw that their dining facilities looked so elegant with chef-prepared meals.
Anyway, it is too early to think of retiring in a senior community right now but I am glad that some communities offer these kinds of facilities and care. It’s not that I’m looking forward to that time but at least I know we have options. Right?
