Last March 5, my hubby, Georyl and I began our one month tour of the United States along with my mother in law. Except for our first stop which is the Grand Canyon, we did not have an itinerary for this trip. We just decided to go wherever the wind blows us to for a month. Looks exciting, eh?
We loaded our minivan with some clothes, toiletries, first aid kit, rice cooker, plastic eating utensils, food and a 5-gallon container of water. Cameras and videocams are given. We also packed our magic jack, a phone and laptop to keep us connected (without paying for long distance charges) while on the road. Oh, we also bought some of Georyl’s favorite stuffed toys and books to keep her entertained during the trip.
Breakfasts are usually free in hotels or motels so we didn’t bother much about those. We sometimes eat on restaurants but it can be expensive if done daily so our usual routine is to just cook some rice before we hit the road in the morning, buy some viand for lunch then have a picnic in a park or any recreation area near the place where we’re at.
We actually didn’t buy any maps, our Tomtom GPS unit shows us how to get to where we wanted to go. However, since I wanted to become more involved in the trip than just an ordinary passenger, I am the one in charged of setting the unit and even interpreting maps on the GPS especially if we missed our turn. This thing will make you go around the block when you can just easily take a u-turn or something.
Whenever we needed something, there are a lot of shops along the way. Our usual stop is the Walmart – to buy fruits, microwaveable food, and other stuff as well as to refill our water container.
Gasoline prices changed from place to place. The cheapest we had bought was $3.24 and the most expensive was almost $4 for a gallon.
Join us in our family adventure as I share with you some pics of the places we’ve been to and the experiences we’ve had. For now, let me end this post by sharing with you the first photo that I shot during our trip. This was taken somewhere between Nevada and Arizona:
