Moving between locations can be a stressful time, as you are busy making sure that everything is perfect where you are going while keeping everything safe in the process. There are always unforeseen problems that can arise when moving, but if you have been prepared before the process before beginning, you can be less caught off guard. Here are some of the ways you can make the moving process go more smoothly.
1. Be Realistic
If you are trying to save money as you prepare to move, it’s easy to understand why you would skip the professional movers. However, if you have never moved before, you have a long way to go, or you have more stuff than you know what to do with, you may need to consider bringing in the pros. They are equipped with the experience, the tools, and the efficiency that you will need to get the job done right. You don’t want to arrive at your new location and open the truck to broken and damaged items. You may need to spend the money to get your stuff to the next spot in one piece.
2. Be Proactive
If you have an approximate deadline for your move, don’t wait until the last minute to start packing and wrapping furniture. There are many places you can get boxes and packing supplies, so you can be proactive in your approach to packing up the contents of your home. If you need to move furniture out of your way or into storage, you don’t need to rent moving equipment just yet. You can take a rigid caster wheel, add it to the bottom corners of larger items and create your own movable furniture. You can also design a homemade dolly to help with transporting large boxes.
3. Be Strategic
Moving can get stressful, with people carrying boxes here and there and multiple locations to navigate. The best way to manage all the movement is planning the routes for moving day. Have one door that is the entrance and one the exit, helping eliminated congestion or traffic when people are carrying boxes or maneuvering heavy furniture around. You may need to have a door taken off the hinges in order to make your moving easier, as oversized furniture can easily be hung up when trying to move it out the front door.
All of these little problems can seem much more stressful on moving day. Planning your approach and your contingency plans might seem a bit obsessive to some, but if you are wanting as much stress removed from the big day as possible, this is one way to make that possible.
