Whatever your personal style preference, odds are that today’s stores have something to accommodate it. But it hasn’t always been so easy….
Style Trends, Through the Years
The bathing suit has undergone some dramatic changes through the ages, to the point where much of what women wore in the past would surprise you. And despite what you may think, they haven’t necessarily grown progressively skimpier over time.
Back in the times of Ancient Greece and Rome, women had one of two options when they went to the local bathhouse – go completely nude, or don a toga. While neither option would probably fly at your local public pool, both were more convenient than the “bathing machine,” which rose to prominence during the Victorian Era. This mobile contraption actually transported women from the beach to the water while hiding them, to ensure that men didn’t see them in their bathing suits. That’s no longer the norm, although you may wish it was!
