It’s been a while since I last worked in a corporate setting. I resigned from my job as the chief finance officer of a multi-national company in the shipping industry before getting married in 2008 and I’ve been busy “working” as a stay at home wife and mother ever since.
I’m so lucky to find a husband who plans for the future. He retired from work at a young age of 42 and now, we’re both stay at home doting parents to our sweet little princess [update: now two princesses]. Such blessings makes me feel so grateful to God. I have a wonderful husband, a smart beautiful baby [update: babies], loving family, relatives and friends – ah! Such a great life!
Not Always That Glad
There was a time when I was ashamed to say that both my husband and I are not working. Whenever my former classmates and colleagues would ask me how I’m doing, I try not to tell them that I’m a “jobless” stay at home wife and mother. Somehow, I felt that not working means that you’re lazy and unsuccessful.
I began to secretly look for jobs in different companies. I applied online for job openings in various industries. I once applied for a job in the bank where we maintain our accounts but didn’t come for the interview. I also planned at applying at General Motors because I love the general motors culture but scrapped the idea after my husband and I had some heart-to-heart talk.
It’s a Blessing
Indeed, there’s no reason to be ashamed for retiring at such a young age. It’s not like we’re born with silver spoons in our mouth. Whatever we achieve and are experiencing right now are products of our hard work and perseverance. We’ve been working hard all these times – especially my husband who really planned to retire young and prepared for his and his family’s future. We’re just reaping the benefits – something that I shouldn’t be ashamed of.
To my wonderful and loving husband, sorry for hurting your feelings during the times when I was still ashamed of our being jobless. Now, I see how blessed I am. With this post, I hope you feel how proud I am to have you as my husband.
I am so blessed and lucky – probably the luckiest person in the world. I hit life’s jackpot when I found the best husband in the whole world.
