An “honest mistake” folks, but for a while I thought Philippines was in a state of war, too. Take a look at this photo from the website of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) in the Philippines to see what I mean.
One of the unique characteristics of the Philippine flag is the symbolism of how it is displayed. In times of peace, the color on top must be blue while in times of war, it is red. The flag behind President Benigno Aquino III was incorrectly displayed and depicted that the Philippines is at war.
Well, President Aquino (in case you still don’t know him, he’s seated in the left-hand side of President Obama in the picture above) didn’t seem to notice the error when the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations met President Obama in Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York last Friday.
U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Thompson said that it was an honest mistake and added that “the U.S. treasures its close relationship and close partnership with the Philippines.”
