I’m doing a quick survey, care to indulge me? Would you prefer seeing the whole post immediately upon arriving a blog or would you rather click the “Read More” link after being thrilled by the post excerpt?
I had noticed that my average posts are more than 400 words long and when published, it takes up a lot of space in my home page. I don’t know if such turns off readers.
In my first blog, I had published post excerpts then had a “Read More” link that readers must click to read the whole post. It helped increase the blog’s page views but it became a big problem when that blog was disabled by Blogger because I wasn’t able to back-up the blog posts. When I tried accessing the cached pages of the posts via Google and other search engines, I only have the front page in the cached page and when I tried to click the “Read More” link, I already reached the “blog not found” page. From that moment on, I vowed not to use “Read More” links on my posts.
How about you? Do you often post your article in whole or you prefer engaging your readers’ interest via an excerpt then make them click the “Read More” link to access the rest of the story? Which one do you prefer?
